The first three books of the series left me strangely unaffected. Were it not for a GR challenge I wouldn’t have continued.
But I was in for a surprise. I guess what hit me the most was that this book felt like serious mainstream writing (emotional depth, detail, flow, secondary characters, overall appeal to the general reader?).
This being said I still skimmed most of the mystery part, preferring the scenes between Jake and Adrien.
