I didn't much care for this short story. Unlike others, the banter for me felt forced and not at all funny. But what really annoyed me was the way the story deals with high school bullying. Alex, upon meeting his former tormentor Ric, is terrified. Instead of taking his feelings of abuse seriously, the reader is supposed to find Alex's problems in dealing with Ric funny. And after a lukewarm apology by Ric, Alex falls for him head over heels!
Having read the brilliant and painful account of teen bullying in Jeff Erno's Invisible
, this just couldn't be fun.
